Long-form Biography
Louis Vendetti grew up outside of Albany, New York. He was born with Cerebral Palsy, a group of disorders that affects a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. When another child asked Louis Vendetti about his disability at the age of five, he responded, “My legs have Cerebral Palsy.” In this way, he never let his disability define him.
Vendetti has proven over and over again that he is handi-capable, not handicapped. His years in the public school and higher education systems taught him that living with the challenges of a physical disability while balancing the demands of receiving an education can be hard, but it is possible. He graduated in 2017 with honors from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York, where he studied business. During his time there, he was a member of the academic honor society—Phi Theta Kappa, appeared on the President’s List four times, and was named in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges® in 2017.
He has always had a passion for writing and achieved his goal of becoming an author by the age of 20. At the beginning of his publishing journey, Vendetti was understandably nervous; but as he has done all his life, he did not let his fear stand in the way of achieving a goal. His remarkable memoir, My Disability Doesn’t Define Me, is a personal account of his journey as a young man with Cerebral Palsy and of the strength and resilience it takes to persevere in the face of challenges.
Vendetti’s memoir has already received accolades, including one from his alma mater, Hudson Valley Community College. On June 26, 2018, at the Committee Meeting of the Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees, Vendetti was honored by President Emeritus Andrew J. Matonak, Ed.D. President Matonak graciously wrote the foreword for My Disability Doesn’t Define Me.
