Goal Setting Worksheet
How to use the Inbetween Publishing Goal Setting Worksheet
Determine your GOAL articulated as Goal, Objectives, Actions, and Limit.
1. First, state your goal.
2. Second, split your goal into smaller, bite-sized, easier-to-manage objectives.
3. Third, figure out the actionable steps you need to take in order to achieve the objectives.
4. Fourth, set the time limit to achieve your objectives.
5. Fifth, track your progress as your “score.” How did you do? Did you make your goal? If not, ask yourself: was it not realistic?
It’s important to make your goals S.M.A.R.T. To be “smart,” they need to be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
● Make sure your goals are as specific as possible (e.g. Not “Supervising Manager” but “Supervising Manager at Apple”).
● Make sure your goals are measurable.
● Make sure your goals are attainable. You can realistically achieve them.
● Make sure your goals are realistic (e.g. writing a whole draft of a book from start to finish in three hours isn’t realistic).
● Make sure your goals are timely. You put a time limit on them (e.g. three months).
Make sure your objectives to achieving your goal are measurable and achievable so you can see and celebrate your progress as you
work towards your goals.
Think to yourself:
1. What is your goal?
2. How can you split your big goal into smaller, bite-sized, easier-to-manage objectives?
3. What actionable steps do you need to take in order to achieve the above objectives?
The example on the next page is for the goal of writing the first draft of a book.
